Abstract

One of the types of heat exchangers that is utilized the most frequently is the shell and tube heat exchanger. Because of the particular benefits that they offer, these are utilized. In order to recover heat that would otherwise be wasted, these heat exchangers are utilized in order to accomplish this end. The current study investigation is centered on the optimization of the performance of a shell and tube heat exchanger. This is accomplished by maximizing the effectiveness of the heat exchanger by adjusting the cross-sections of the tubes that are utilized in the heat exchanger. Within the scope of this investigation, five distinct kinds of cross-sections of tubes have been utilized for the purpose of examination. Circular, square, pentagonal, hexagonal and octagonal cross-sections are the shapes that cross-sections take. An analysis is performed to determine the impact that each of these cross-section tubes has on heat transfer and efficiency. The findings of the study indicate that an octagonal cross section achieves the highest possible heat transfer rate of 64.4 kilojoules per second and the highest possible effectiveness rate of 0.4. It may be deduced from these findings that the surface area continues to be directly related to the heat transmission.
