Abstract

This script contains the R code for a stochastic grid-based simulation model of plant community dynamics, used to explore how different plant-plant interaction networks affect community invasibility. The model simulates plant community dynamics with an annual time step on a square grid. Each grid cell can be empty or occupied by at most one individual plant. At each time step, the following processes occur in order: immigration, recruitment, growth and mortality. The simulation model runs in R. Before running the simulation, four parameters must be set manually at the top of the script: the interaction network scenario ("baseline" or "new"), the world size, the recruitment type ("local" or "global"), and the interaction effect type ("previous" or "neighbour"). Before running the script, a folder called "outputs" must be created manually in the working directory. All simulation outputs, including species richness, biomass, and diversity records, will be written to this folder automatically during the simulation.
