Digital Overload and Spiritual Disconnection: Counselling Approaches for Reclaiming Inner Peace in the Technological Age
Abstract
Rapid digital technology adoption has brought about an unprecedented level of connectedness, but it has also resulted in significant psychological and spiritual disarray. Although technology is convenient, it also contributes to digital overload, a condition that weakens people's sense of purpose and tranquillity by causing cognitive strain, mental fatigue, and information overload. This essay examines the complex connection between spiritual disconnection and digital overload, highlighting the therapeutic modalities required to re-establish inner peace in the era of technology. Based on Frankl's Logotherapy, the study views the pursuit of purpose as a means for people to recover their holistic well-being and get past their sense of digital reliance. The study synthesises evidence from several contexts to demonstrate how excessive connectedness impairs reflection, mindfulness, and purpose. It does this by drawing on recent research on digital cognition, spirituality, and psychological wellness, so that people achieve resilience and balance, it suggests a therapy model called the Meaning-Mindfulness Reconnection Framework, which combines self-awareness, digital discipline, and spiritual regeneration. According to the study's findings, developing meaning-focused digital behaviours is crucial for maintaining mental wellness, emotional clarity, and spiritual vitality in the age of technology. It is also therapeutic.
