Abstract

LasaiON is an evidence-informed, multimodal self-regulation program designed to reduce emotional distress and strengthen stress-regulation skills by combining transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) with breathing supported by heart-rate variability biofeedback (HRV-B; emWave). LasaiON consists of 14 intervention days, with sessions scheduled on weekdays only (no public holidays), so implementation spans approximately three weeks. Each session lasts 30 minutes, and participants complete two sessions per day. This is a quantitative, prospective, interventional study using a randomized controlled trial (RCT) design with two parallel arms and a wait-list control group (delayed control: the control group receives LasaiON after completing the post-test for the control period). The program is currently under ethical review by the Ethics Committee for Research with Human Participants (CEISH-UPV/EHU), reference M10/2026/055.
