Advancing Road Safety Through Data: Challenges, Solutions, and Policy Insights from EU Road Safety Projects
Abstract
This joint white paper presents consolidated insights from the EU Road Safety Cluster, bringing together evidence from multiple Horizon Europe and EU-funded projects on how data can better support proactive, predictive, and policy-relevant road safety strategies. It explores key challenges related to data availability, quality, interoperability, governance, and privacy, while showcasing practical solutions such as federated data spaces, digital twins, AI-based analytics, and FAIR-aligned data management practices. The paper also provides policy recommendations to support Europe’s Vision Zero objectives. This publication is released ahead of promotion for the RTR Conference 2026 (#RTR2026), taking place 10-12 February 2026 in Brussels.
