Evaluation Reports for TEBT-2025-0019 | Vilos et al.
Abstract
Evaluation reports for "Comparative assessment of animal experimentation regulations and the integration of new approach methodologies across six Latin American countries" (Vilos et al.) This article is an interesting and potentially important review of the economic and legal infrastructure around the use of animal and non-animal experimental methods in research in Latin America. The article focuses on six countries to represent the overall regional situation. Comments during peer-review focused on striking a balance between the comprehensiveness of reviewing the situation in Latin America, while presenting enough detail that each national situation is sufficiently complete and accurate, while also being able to do this in a way that is feasible given the authors’ resources and of a length that is realistic for a journal article. The authors addressed this balance in a substantially revised resubmission, reworking the article as an expert overview describing and comparing the situation in their six target countries. This facilitated making the article concise and focused, and for it to lead toward a direct and clear conclusion about regional progress on infrastructure that may support monitoring and reduction of the use of animals in research in Latin America. One reviewer was available to comment on the revised manuscript and recommended it be accepted. The handling editor also reviewed the revised manuscript and agreed that acceptance is appropriate. We are therefore pleased to accept the manuscript for publication.
