Conceptual Note: Informational Coherence as an Ontological Substrate of Magnetic Order
Abstract
This conceptual note situates recent discoveries of non-moment-based magnetic order, including altermagnetism identified by the team of Tomáš Jungwirth and collaborators, within the ZIP (Zonal Information-Coherence) framework. It argues that magnetic phenomena are not fundamentally tied to macroscopic magnetic moments, but emerge from structured rotational coherence of internal informational dynamics. The ZIP framework formulates magnetism as a manifestation of coherent informational flow, with magnetic fields corresponding to the vorticity of phase-aligned informational currents. From this perspective, altermagnetic systems represent material-specific realizations of a more general coherence principle. The note does not reinterpret experimental results nor propose modifications to established electromagnetic theory. Its purpose is to provide an ontological context in which recent advances in condensed-matter physics naturally arise as special cases of coherence-driven magnetic order.
