Abstract

Dried polycarbonate filters (0.8 µm pore size) containing coccolithophore samples were subsampled (~1 × 0.5 cm) and mounted onto aluminum SEM stubs. Samples were sputter-coated with a 10 nm layer of gold prior to imaging. Micrographs were acquired using a Quanta FEG 250 scanning electron microscope (FEI, Hillsboro, Oregon, USA). Images were obtained for taxonomic identification of coccolithophore species and Gephyrocapsa huxleyi morphotypes present on the filters.
