Abstract

The data contained here are derived from sand column experiments and modeling that investigate the effect of bacterial biofilm on the transport of zinc oxide nanoparticles (nZnO) in porous media. The data consist of outlet concentrations of nZnO from column experiments and numerical simulations without and with biofilm at 5 different ionic strengths and 2 different flow rates (File: nZnO BTCs and retention profiles_experiment and model.xlsx). Outlet concentrations of tracer are also given (File: Tracer BTCs_experiment and model.xlsx). E. coli concentration data, both in the column outlet and biofilm, have been included (File: E.coli conc. at outlet and in biofilm.xlsx). The total interaction energy plot data for particle-sand and particle-particle interactions are included (File: dlvo_plot_data.xlsx). The porosity and hydraulic conductivity of sand with biofilm are included (File: porosity and hydraulic conductivity.xlsx). Sensitivity analyses of the modelled parameters have been provided. (File: Sensitivity_analysis.xlsx) Surface roughness characteristics of both bare and biofilm sand have been included (File: roughness.zip). Finally, the EDS raw data of the biofilm sand have been attached (File: SEM_EDS.docx).
