Abstract

The article discusses the role of digital technologies as a key factor in improving the quality of online training for future translators and interpreters in higher education institutions in Ukraine in the context of European integration and digital transformation of education. It substantiates the necessity to update educational and professional training programs for translators/interpreters so that they fall in line with the requirements of the EU labor market and EMT standards. The main point of discussion is the ways to develop the students' digital competence. It analyzes current Ukrainian and international studies that demonstrate the systemic impact of information technologies, CAT tools, machine translation, remote collaboration platforms, and artificial intelligence on translators/interpreters training. Particular attention is paid to the specifics of online training in interpreting in Ukraine, which remains understudied. The article aims to analyze the practical use of digital tools in training conference interpreters. Based on teaching experience, the article describes the capabilities of five types of programs, e.g. Scroller, Turboscribe, automatic translation systems, CATs, neural networks (ChatGPT, etc.), and specialized platforms for training simultaneous and consecutive interpretation (ReBooth). It is shown that their use contributes to the simulation of real-life interpreting conditions, the development of compression, prediction, paraphrasing, and lexical activation skills, as well as the observance of academic integrity in online and hybrid learning. The pedagogically balanced use of digital technologies is emphasized in order to prevent students' excessive dependence on machine translation and preserve the creative component of translation. It is concluded that the integration of digital tools, provided they are used in a methodologically sound manner, significantly increases the effectiveness of training future interpreters. Prospects for further research are seen in the differentiation of digital approaches depending on the level of students' linguistic and professional training.
