Abstract
This preprint examines how romantic love is constructed as emotional value and social competence in the Japanese Netflix dating reality show Love Joto. Through discourse and audiovisual analysis of all episodes, the paper identifies a two-layered structure of emotional intensity and emotional articulation, highlighting the role of communal norms and masculinity in shaping spectatorial pleasure.
