Design and CAD Documentation of a Six Cylinder Internal Combustion Engine Assembly Using SolidWorks
Abstract
This paper presents the CAD-based design and technical documentation of a V-type six-cylinder internal combustion engine developed as a personal mechanical engineering project using SolidWorks. The work emphasizes the complete design and modeling of all individual engine components, demonstrating proficiency in parametric part modeling, structured assembly planning, and professional engineering documentation rather than performance analysis or experimental validation. A total of 23 unique parts were individually designed and assembled into a fully constrained 74-part digital engine model using appropriate reference geometry and mating strategies. The design follows a realistic V6 engine architecture, incorporating structural, rotating, and valve train systems. Exploded views, sectional views, and a comprehensive bill of materials were generated to support clear technical documentation and professional portfolio presentation.
