HSP Reclassification: Sensory Processing Sensitivity vs. Low Sensory Processing (LSP) — A Experiential Theory of Misidentification and Label Dependency HSP再分類:感覚処理感受性 vs. 感覚鈍麻(LSP)— 誤認とラベル依存の体験的理論
Abstract
This paper proposes a reclassification of the widely misused "HSP (Highly Sensitive Person)" label by introducing a new concept: LSP (Low Sensory Processing). Based on Elaine Aron's original 1997 definition of Sensory Processing Sensitivity (SPS), HSP is a physiological trait characterized by heightened sensory processing — not mental fragility. However, a large population of self-identified HSPs exhibits no physical symptoms of sensory hypersensitivity (such as nausea, involuntary tears, pain from sound/light/wind, or olfactory detection of disease). Instead, their primary complaint is "not being understood by others," which is an interpersonal communication issue, not a sensory processing issue. This paper argues that these individuals are more accurately classified as LSP (Low Sensory Processing): their sensory resolution is too low to detect the cognitive and emotional states of others, resulting in an inability to adjust communication strategies. The key diagnostic criteria proposed are: (1) presence or absence of observable physical symptoms, (2) engineering-based vs. interpersonal coping strategies, and (3) frequency of interrogative usage in communication. The paper further demonstrates that HSP label misidentification creates a self-reinforcing loop of label dependency, attracting exploitative relationships and perpetuating the very isolation that self-identified HSPs report. The author, a verified HSP with documented sensory hypersensitivity (olfactory disease detection, coil whine pain response, photosensitivity, wind-induced skin pain), presents this theory from direct experiential evidence spanning decades of observation. 本論文は、広く誤用されている「HSP(Highly Sensitive Person)」ラベルの再分類を提案し、新概念LSP(Low Sensory Processing:感覚鈍麻)を導入する。
