Pro Capsule Series: Descriptive Closure: The Inhibition Boundary Under Scrutiny
Abstract
Descriptive Closure names a recurring structural boundary in complex systems: thepoint where further precision, transparency, or standardization becomes too costlyto sustain under scrutiny. The core claim is not that systems hide information, butthat systems remain institutionally survivable by regulating what can be made fullyexplicit. Beyond a threshold, explicit description increases exposure (legal, organizational, reputational, operational) faster than it increases performance. Thesystem responds through inhibition: it converts substance into procedure, judgmentinto documentation, and decisions into reviewable steps. This capsule formalizesDescriptive Closure as an impersonal, non-prescriptive lens. It provides observabletraces and minimal validity conditions so closure claims remain structural ratherthan conspiratorial. The governance relevance is definitional: governance is wherethe system chooses survivability under review over maximum explicitness. Thedocument contains no tactics, no interventions, and no recommendations—only astable term for a stable constraint.
