The R. Berretti Patent (1983–1984): An Early Formalization of Complex Pattern Recognition Through a Circular Visual Structure
Abstract
This record contains the English translation of the Italian work previously published on Zenodo, presenting a historical and cognitive reinterpretation of an Italian patent developed in 1983–1984. The patent describes an analog diagnostic device based on a circular visual structure for integrating multiple biochemical variables and enabling pre-attentive pattern recognition in the absence of digital visualization tools. The analysis interprets the device as an early formalization of a cognitive visualization principle, anticipating modern circular interfaces used in contemporary digital, safety-critical, and consumer systems. The work is intended for researchers in information visualization, human–computer interaction, cognitive science, design history, and museum or archival contexts.
