Intraoperative and Postoperative Doppler in Liver Transplantation
Abstract
Doppler ultrasound is the primary method for vascular assessment of the liver graft in both the intraoperative and postoperative settings of liver transplantation, as it allows real-time hemodynamic evaluation of the hepatic artery, portal vein, and hepatic veins in a noninvasive, reproducible, and widely available manner (Figure 1). Its systematic use is directly associated with the early detection of vascular complications, which remain among the leading causes of graft dysfunction, need for reintervention, and graft loss after liver transplantation [1–3].
