CEMENTARZYSKO: An Atlas of Fossils and Minerals of the Opole Muschelkalk
Abstract
The study presents a comprehensive atlas of fossils and minerals from the Middle Triassic Muschelkalk of the Strzelce Opolskie region (Silesia). The author introduces the original geo-phrase "Cementarzysko" (a portmanteau of "cement" and "cemetery"), linking the biological phenomenon of mass faunal accumulations (notably Coenothyris vulgaris brachiopods) with their anthropogenic application in the regional lime and cement industry. The work integrates formal palaeontological documentation with the historical context of European geological pioneering in Silesia (referencing L. von Buch, F. Roemer, and P. Assmann). A distinctive feature of this publication is the extensive collection of original, hand-drawn interpretive sketches. These illustrations emphasize diagnostic taxonomic features and the taphonomic dynamics of the Germanic Basin, offering a unique visual synthesis often absent in standard photographic catalogues.
