Abstract

This tool provides a workflow for bridging global climate model outputs with regional climate simulations. Specifically, it converts 3-hourly atmospheric and surface fields from the Community Earth System Model version 2 (CESM2), including specific solar climate intervention experiments like ARISE-SAI-1.5 and reference scenarios SSP2-4.5, into the WRF (Weather Research and Forecasting) Intermediate Format. Methodological Foundation: The conversion workflow is based on the methodology described by Bruyère et al. (2014), with significant modifications to handle the specific metadata and coordinate systems of the CESM2 ARISE-SAI and SSP ensembles. Key Technical Features: Atmospheric Data: Processes 3-hourly fields including, for example, temperature, wind components. Data is vertically interpolated from the original CESM2 levels to 21 selected pressure levels, ensuring compatibility with the WRF Preprocessing System (WPS). Surface and Soil Data: Handles daily and monthly surface data, specifically mapping 4 soil levels for soil moisture and soil temperature to provide accurate lower boundary conditions for WRF.
