Abstract

This repository includes the land use and land cover (LULC) map of Tarkwa and surroundings (Western Region, Ghana). The following LULC classes are represented: Tropical rainforest Bamboo Swamp forest / Gallery forest Shrub fallow Herbaceous fallow Cocoa Rubber plantation Oil palm plantation Food crop Built-up area Bare soil / Road Mining Waterbody The map was produced through a supervised classification using the Random Forests algorithm (Breiman, 2001). Cloud-free surface reflectance spectral bands from Sentinel 2 and PlanetScope monthly composite basemaps were used as input data, and independent training and validation datasets were generated based on in situ data and photo-interpretation. The detailed methodology and accuracy assessment statistics are presented in the technical report included in the repository. This dataset was produced with financial support from Valrhona.
