First White Paper: Advancing WaterSmart and Climate-Resilient Agriculture in Europe
Abstract
This First White Paper of the GEORGIA project outlines an integrated approach to advancing water-smart and climate-resilient agriculture in Europe. Addressing increasing drought risks and water scarcity, the document presents innovative solutions that combine circular water reuse, nature-based solutions, soil-water retention strategies, and AI-driven digital decision-support tools to improve irrigation efficiency and safeguard ecosystems. It identifies technical, economic, regulatory, and social barriers to adoption while proposing enabling policy, financial, and knowledge-transfer pathways aligned with key EU strategies such as the Green Deal and the Water Resilient Strategy.
