Abstract

I'm never forgiving you mfers for saying I ought to work on the Sunflower Scheisseshow as the next thing btw.We develop a trilinear spectral theory for product-type tensors on finite alphabets, motivated by the sunflower conjecture of Erdős and Rado. The local sunflower tensor t(a, b, c) = [a + b + c ≡ 0 mod 3] on ℤ3 has CP rank exactly 3, with a diagonal decomposition t = 1⁄3 ∑j=02 χj ⊗ χj ⊗ χj in the character basis. The n-fold product tensor on ℤ3n inherits this structure, yielding a global CP decomposition indexed by all characters of ℤ3n. We prove that the trilinear spectral theorem for such product-type tensors reduces to the polynomial method of Croot–Lev–Pach and Ellenberg–Gijswijt: the slice rank is controlled by a degree partition of the local polynomial representation, and the resulting cap set bound |S| ≤ O(2.755n) is a direct consequence of the trilinear entropy—a quantity with no bilinear analogue. We introduce a structural comparison between the bilinear spectral theory (which produces algebraic locks via eigenvalue constraints) and the trilinear spectral theory (which produces entropy barriers via degree counting). This explains, at the level of algebraic structure, why the sunflower conjecture resists the methods that resolve the Riemann Hypothesis and Frankl's conjecture: bilinear problems have binary spectral gates; trilinear problems have continuous entropy barriers. All results are finite algebra in ZFC.
