Partition Ratios Across Mathematical and Physical Systems: A Comprehensive Review and Cross-Disciplinary Synthesis
Abstract
Partition ratios—quantifying the asymmetry between positive and negative regions ofmathematical functions or physical wavefunctions—have emerged as a unifying observablerevealing robust structural regularities across multiple domains. This comprehensive re-view synthesizes the partition ratio research program, a central strand of the broader Sci-ence Generalization Hypothesis (SGH) framework introduced in Paper Zero. The SGHinvestigates whether mathematical structures and physical laws may arise as parametricmanifestations of shared generative principles. Under minimal global constraints of zeromean and unit norm, partition ratios exhibit a characteristic dimensional hierarchy: arbi-trary asymmetry in low effective dimensions, multimodal empirical clustering around specificmathematical constants in intermediate regimes, and exponential concentration toward bal-ance in high dimensions. These patterns recur in pure mathematical function spaces onthe circle and interval, large-scale parametric ensembles, constraint-preserving neural archi-tectures, and quantum chaotic eigenstates. We survey rigorous analytical results includingL´evy concentration and entropy maximization to ln 2, large-scale computational discoveriesincluding a prominent π/(π + 1) mode and approximate logarithmic additivity, machinelearning applications via exact projection inducing attractor behavior, quantum extensionswith Born-weighted observables and near-term experimental protocols, and the philosoph-ical framework of Constraint-Induced Necessity with its naturalistic resolution of Wigner’sunreasonable effectiveness through constraint matching. Full methodological details, repro-ducibility resources, and more than fifty open problems are provided. This work estab-lishes partition ratios as a powerful probe of constraint-induced structure with implicationsfor high-dimensional probability, quantum chaos, geometric deep learning, computationalmathematical discovery, and foundational questions in mathematics and physics.
