Analisis geoestadistico de la temperatura del fondo de los margenes continentales europeos y zonas adyacentes
Abstract
This BSc Thesis presents a geostatistical analysis of bottom temperature data from Europeancontinental margins aimed at the study of gas hydrates. For this reason, the analysisfocuses on water masses below 200 m depth, where gas hydrates are usually stable. Abovethis bathymetric depth, the study of bottom temperature is no longer of interest sincehydrates, in mid-latitudes, are usually not stable. The present analysis has been developed following the following steps: Spatial segmentation of the data: Based on the subdivision of the oceanicmasses into deep water masses, the characteristics of each zone and theirpossible effect on gas hydrate stability have been defined. Analysis of the covariance of the data, assessing the use of statistical methods. Error analysis: Analysing the fit of the estimated values for the model oncethe interpolation method has been applied. Estimation of the bottom temperature: Making a bottom temperature map ofeach of the water masses. The work reveals a great spatial continuity of the vast majority of the deep water masses. The deeper water masses show more homogeneous data than the water masses affectingthe mid-upper slope and continental shelf. However, most of the water masses located onthe mid-upper slope and continental shelf show more homogeneous data than the watermasses affecting the mid-upper slope and continental shelf.
