Abstract

This work presents a conceptual design for a foldable, wall‑mounted Western toilet intended for use over existing Iranian squat toilets in space‑constrained restrooms. The proposed system addresses accessibility challenges faced by elderly individuals, patients with limited mobility, and users who cannot comfortably use squat toilets. Unlike conventional portable Western toilets, this design minimizes floor occupation by folding vertically against the wall when not in use. The concept integrates a flexible polymer toilet bowl, a metal support frame, and a rail‑based deployment mechanism, allowing temporary conversion of asquat toilet into a sitting toilet without permanent structural modification. This study is presented as an idea‑driven conceptual paper and aims to contribute to inclusive sanitation design for residential environments where renovation or toilet replacement is not feasible.
