Exploring Pedagogical Treasures: Student-Centered Approaches in Language Teaching
Abstract
In recent decades, language teaching has undergone a significant pedagogical shift from teacher-dominated instruction to learner-centered education. Student-centered approaches recognize learners as active participants in the construction of knowledge rather than passive recipients of information. This article explores the concept of student-centered language teaching, examining its theoretical foundations, major approaches, classroom strategies, benefits, challenges, and implications for teachers and institutions. By viewing pedagogy as a “treasure house” of diverse practices, the paper highlights how student-centered approaches unlock learners’ linguistic, cognitive, emotional, and social potential. The article argues that student-centered pedagogy is not merely a methodological trend but a transformative philosophy essential for effective language education in contemporary classrooms.
