A COMPREHENSIVE AYURVEDIC CASE STUDY ON KHALITYA (HAIR LOSS) INDUCED BY PSYCHOLOGICAL STRESS AND HORMONAL AXIS DISTURBANCE
Abstract
Hair loss is a common yet psychologically distressing condition affecting young adults worldwide. In Ayurveda, hair fall is described as Khalitya, a Pitta-pradhana Tridoshaja Vyadhi involving Rakta and Asthi Dhatu. Psychological stress, emotional trauma, environmental changes, and hormonal disturbances are well-recognized etiological factors contributing to Dosha Prakopa and Dhatu Kshaya. The present case study documents a young male patient suffering from progressive hair loss associated with stress due to environmental change during education, depressive symptoms, reduced energy levels, impaired pubertal features, and a history of hormonal injections. Associated conditions included Shitpitta and Pitika. A holistic Ayurvedic management protocol focusing on Nidana Parivarjana, Dosha Shamana, Rasayana, and Manasika Bhava Chikitsa was adopted. Significant improvement was observed in hair fall, scalp health, dermatological symptoms, and psychological well-being.
