Impact of Age on Onset of Menarche on Onset of Menopause a Corelation Study
Abstract
Menopause marks the permanent cessation of menstruation and signifies the end of a woman’s reproductive life, typically occurring between 45 and 55 years of age. The timing of menopause varies widely and is influenced by genetic, biological, and lifestyle factors. The present study aimed to examine the relationship between age at menarche and age at menopause, and to evaluate the influence of obesity on the onset of natural menopause. A cross-sectional comparative study was conducted among 100 naturally postmenopausal women aged 40–60 years, divided equally into obese and non-obese groups based on body mass index. Data on age at menarche, age at menopause, and menopausal symptoms were collected and analyzed using appropriate statistical methods. The results revealed no statistically significant difference in the mean age at menopause between obese and non-obese women. Furthermore, correlation analysis showed a negligible and non-significant association between age at menarche and age at menopause (r = 0.038). These findings suggest that neither obesity nor age at menarche has a significant influence on the timing of natural menopause. The onset of menopause appears to be determined predominantly by genetic and other lifestyle-related factors rather than early reproductive milestones.
