Abstract

The Analytical Report “Agroecology in Ukraine: Science, Practice, and Social Movement” has been developed with the aim of disseminating new knowledge about the socio-economic potential of agroecology in Ukraine. The report highlights the stages of transformation of the agroecological concept, the evolution of scientific views on agroecology, and the fundamental principles underlying its identification as both a system of agricultural production and a framework for shaping sustainable, fair, and inclusive agri-food systems, grounded in a human rights framework. It provides an analytical assessment of agroecologically oriented practices across different economic entities, offers a typology and mapping of production practices, scientific and educational initiatives, and social movements, and presents the Agroecological Map of Ukraine developed on this basis. The report proposes a system of strategic measures to facilitate the agroecological transition, including the development of a National Roadmap as a coordination document that defines the pathways and actions to scale up agroecology, improve the institutional environment, and establish mechanisms for monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the agroecological transition. The report is intended for a wide audience of professionals in agricultural economics, sociology, food security, public administration, and local governance, as well as researchers, educators, and the international community.
