Abstract

Session 1 of the EPOS-ES seminar on Open Access, FAIR data and Data Management in Geosciences. This presentation provides a comprehensive overview of Open Science and Research Data Management (RDM) practices in the geosciences, with a particular focus on FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles and their practical implementation. It introduces key concepts related to research data lifecycles, metadata standards, persistent identifiers (e.g., DOI, ORCID, IGSN), and European research infrastructures such as EPOS and EOSC. The material includes practical guidance on data documentation, repository selection, interoperability, and FAIR sample management in Earth Sciences, offering researchers concrete tools to enhance data transparency, reproducibility, and long-term reuse. The presentation is designed as a training resource for researchers, data managers, and institutions seeking to align their practices with Open Science and FAIR data standards.
