Early Warning System Based on IoT and Satellite Connectivity for Disconnected Rural Communities

These conference proceedings compile the peer-reviewed papers presented at the 4th International Congress on Applied Technology and Science (CITCA 2025), held at the Centro Nacional de Investigación y Desarrollo Tecnológico (CENIDET), Tecnológico Nacional de México, in Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico, from May 21–23, 2025. Among the included contributions is the paper “Early Warning System Based on IoT and Satellite Connectivity for Disconnected Rural Communities”, which presents the design, deployment, and field validation of a low-cost IoT-based early warning system connected through Starlink satellite Internet to provide real-time alerts in rural areas without terrestrial telecommunications infrastructure. The system integrates MQTT communication, cloud services, and visual signaling devices to enable remote activation by Civil Protection authorities, demonstrating reliability, low latency, and replicability under real operating conditions. These proceedings serve as a record of the research advances presented at CITCA 2025 and contribute to knowledge transfer between academia, government, and society through open dissemination of applied technological solutions.
