The Universe Has No External - Why ζ = φ⁻¹
Abstract
The foundational paper of the trilogy. This paper asks the question that a century of attempts to derive the fine structure constant has failed to ask: why must the universe couple to itself with golden ratio damping? The answer: a closed gravitational system with no external environment cannot have an externally determined coupling constant. Every structural ratio must be a fixed point of its own definition. The unique attracting fixed point on (0,1) is φ⁻¹. The paper traces a six-step chain of necessity — from GR's self-referential structure, through the forced Lagrangian, the unique Fisher–Rao metric, the requirement of dissipation, and the axiom of self-determined coupling — to the quadratic equation ζ² + ζ = 1 whose sole positive root is the golden ratio's inverse. One axiom. No free parameters. Seventeen falsifiable predictions. This paper removes the last postulate from Spiral Convergence Theory and replaces it with a testable principle grounded in the closure of general relativity.
