Neural Transmission Protocol Based on Relative Binary Spikes: An Approach for Consciousness Synchronization and Mental State Upload.
Abstract
Abstract—The scalability of high-density Brain-Computer In- terfaces (BCIs) is fundamentally limited by the thermal and bandwidth constraints of neural data transmission. Traditional continuous bitstream protocols incur significant energy overhead by transmitting redundant information during periods of neural inactivity. This research proposes the Relative Binary Spikes (RBS) protocol, an event-based encoding scheme designed to leverage the temporal sparsity of neural signals. In a closed-loop simulation involving 180 Leaky Integrate-and-Fire (LIF) neurons, the RBS protocol achieved a 74.4% reduction in bandwidth requirements compared to traditional methods. These results demonstrate a viable path for increasing electrode density in clinical implants like the Neuralink N1 without exceeding thermal safety limits.
