Mortality from Dementia and Neurological Diseases in Italy: Trends 2004–2021
Abstract
From 2004 to 2021, mortality from dementia and neurological diseases among older people increased in all Italian regions, with a rising national trend. Territorial differences show a gradual convergence between North and South, with particularly marked increases in Sardinia, Sicily, and Trentino–Alto Adige. Population ageing and improvements in diagnosis explain much of the increase, with significant implications for health and social services.
