A Chain-Based Heuristic for Twin Primes
Abstract
Description:This work introduces a heuristic framework suggesting that certain prime pairs—especially twin primes—generate arithmetic sequences whose residue patterns repeatedly recreate the characteristic twin-prime gap of 2. Starting from foundational pairs such as (2, 3), (3, 5), and classical twin-prime pairs like (11, 13), (17, 19), and (29, 31), the model observes that sieving these sequences often leaves survivors with consistent spacing of 2. The paper proposes a proportionality relation P≈k⋅(G/N) , where P represents the density of surviving residues, G is the gap between the generating primes, and N is the number of primes acting as filters. This relation aligns with simplified sieve behavior and supports the idea that small-gap prime pairs may serve as generative seeds for further twin-prime-like structures. Building on these observations, the heuristic suggests a recursive “twin-prime chain,” where each twin prime pair contributes to conditions that generate further twin-prime patterns. While not a proof of the Twin Prime Conjecture, the model offers an intuitive structural perspective on why gap-2 patterns persist throughout the primes. The paper also discusses limitations, including irregular behavior for large primes and the absence of rigorous density estimates.
