Abstract

"Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) are major public health issues, associated with several comorbidities and increased mortality worldwide. Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) has emerged as the most prevalent form of chronic liver disease closely related to both obesity and T2D. The ketogenic diet, referred to as a Very Low Energy Ketogenic Therapy (VLEKT), is increasingly applied in clinical setting for its effectiveness in promoting weight loss. It has also shown promise in reducing hepaticfat accumulation and fibrosis. However, the effects of VLEKT on glucometabolic parametersremained to be fully clarified. Aim: This 12-weeks pilot study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of the VLEKT on body composition, glucometabolic and liver parameters in obese subjects diagnosed with T2D and MASLD."
