Abstract

This work is one of a series intended to assist in the teaching of ocean literacy and allied aspects of environmental education. It targets investigations on the effects of ocean acidification on the functioning of the plankton that support the growth of most organisms in open-water aquatic ecosystems. The work requires the use of simulation models. These models enable students to experiment with simple representations of the real world, to explore for themselves what the consequences are of changing ocean acidity. The models operate within a Microsoft Windows application, called Powersim Cockpit, which is available for free. To download this free application, visit this website: https://powersim.com/download-cockpit/ The allied models are available as follows: Flynn, K. J. (2026).
