DG-32.0 – Varroa and Latent Viruses: Microbiome Balance and the Limits of Colony Buffering Capacity
Abstract
This report presents a systemic interpretation of the interaction between Varroa destructor, latent viral presence, and microbiome stability in honey bee colonies. Rather than attributing colony collapse solely to viral infection, the document proposes that pathological viral amplification occurs when colony-level buffering capacity declines. Within the GBM (Genetic · Behavioral · Microbiome) framework, Varroa is interpreted as both vector and destabilizing agent, capable of altering immune function, microbiome balance, and behavioral coordination. The report argues that colony resilience depends on systemic regulatory coherence rather than on pathogen elimination alone.
