Bidirectional interface between the human brain and neural culture: current state of research
Abstract
A conceptual review and survey of the feasibility of engineering-path immortality via years-long, bidirectional, spike-level coupling between a human brain–computer interface (BCI) and a geographically remote in-vitro neural culture. We formulate the hypothesis of gradual distributed integration, in which the external neural substrate becomes functionally incorporated into the self, such that interruption of the link produces a measurable cognitive deficit in the human participant.
