Abstract

This document presents a detailed genealogical chart of Somali lineages, resulting from seven years of extensive fieldwork across Djibouti, Somalia, Ethiopia, and Kenya. Based on direct oral testimonies and interviews with tribal genealogists and representatives, this tree maps the intricate kinship structures of the Somali people. To date, three editions have been released. In the first two editions, maternal nephews (sister's children) were mistakenly included in the patrilineal descent, an error that has been corrected in the latest iteration. Additionally, historical evidence indicates that the Digil and Geledi groups originated from the Ethiopian Highlands; upon migrating to the Somali region, they settled and absorbed both Xamarre Samaale and Xariire Samaale. This work serves as a primary visual reference for historians and social scientists, aiming to preserve the oral genealogical heritage of the Horn of Africa in a unified academic format.
