DISCOURSE ANALYSIS OF ACADEMIC AND MEDIA TEXTS IN CONTEMPORARY COMMUNICATION
Abstract
Discourse analysis has emerged as a vital analytical framework for examining how language functions within diverse communicative contexts. This study explores the discourse characteristics of academic and media texts in contemporary communication, focusing on how meaning, ideology, and social power are constructed and conveyed through linguistic choices. Academic discourse is analyzed in terms of its structural conventions, rhetorical strategies, and epistemic practices that contribute to knowledge production and scholarly authority. Media discourse, by contrast, is examined for its framing mechanisms, narrative patterns, and evaluative language that shape public opinion and influence social perception. By adopting a comparative discourse-analytical approach, the study highlights both the differences and intersections between academic and media texts, revealing how each discourse type responds to institutional goals and audience expectations. The findings demonstrate that while academic texts prioritize objectivity, precision, and methodological rigor, media texts emphasize accessibility, immediacy, and persuasive impact. The study underscores the significance of discourse analysis in enhancing critical literacy and understanding the role of language in mediating knowledge and power in contemporary society
