MBD-Framework: Memory as Baseline Deviation — Computational Labs
Abstract
MBD-Framework provides 18 standalone simulation labs demonstrating the key phenomena across a six-paper series on Memory as Baseline Deviation (MBD) — a formal framework that models personality, cognition, and social dynamics as state-space systems. Core Equation B(t+1) = B(t)(1 − λ) + I(t) · λ An agent’s personality is not a label — it is a vector in state space. Every significant experience shifts that vector. λ is the plasticity parameter — how deeply the event rewrites who you are. The 18 Labs Paper 1 — Baseline Deviation (6 labs): Two-agent convergence, ADHD plasticity, ossification, Shaken Baby Syndrome, phantom limb, bipolar cycling Paper 2 — Markov Tensor (1 lab): Echo chamber convergence → shock → catastrophic fragmentation Paper 3 — Episodic Recall (1 lab): Novelty-gated encoding, context-scaffolded recall Paper 4 — Coupling Asymmetry (5 labs): ASPD, BPD, parasitic coupling, internalised Other, DID fragmentation Paper 5 — Emergent Gate (2 labs): Mood-incongruent recall, dual resonance Paper 6 — Resonant Gate (3 labs): Phase-locked coupling, zeta integration, deontological pressure tests Also Includes Machine-checked proofs (proofs/) — Lean 4 + Mathlib proofs that the core update contracts the gap by exactly (1 − λ) per step, has a closed form, converges for 0 < λ < 2 from any start, and stays within the input range for 0 ≤ λ ≤ 1; plus the convolution (filter) form, partition of unity of its weights (non-negative exactly when 0 ≤ λ ≤ 1), a tracking bound for noisy inputs, and mean lag (1 − λ)/λ. No sorry; plain-English report in proofs/README.md Core MBD equations (analysis/trauma_model.py) — Baseline, TraumaForm, update_baseline, update_kappa Interactive notebooks (notebooks/) — Jupyter walkthroughs of Paper 1 and Paper 4 Web UI (lab/) — FastAPI + React/Recharts interactive lab runner Key Equations Baseline drift: B(t+1) = B(t)(1 − λ) + I(t) · λ — Memory permanently alters resting personality state Coupling dynamics: dκ/dt = α(1 − N) − βκ — Relationships strengthen in familiarity, fracture in novelty Executive load: L(t) = Σ κi · wi — Total cognitive bandwidth consumed by active couplings Phase transition: eff = exp(−γ(L − Lc)) when L > Lc — Executive dysfunction as phase transition, not character flaw Accompanying Papers Memory as Baseline Deviation — Personality as state-space dynamics; baseline drift under trauma In Pursuit of the Markov Tensor — Geometric framework for social cognition via tensor lattices Episodic Recall as Resonant Re-instantiation — Fokker–Planck account of memory retrieval dynamics The Coupling Asymmetry — Executive dysfunction as an eigenstate of the memory–baseline system The Emergent Gate — Memory encoding as threshold-dependent consolidation The Resonant Gate — Conversational insight as phase-locked coupling Quick Start pip install -r requirements.txt python -m labs.paper1_baseline.eq_lab # Run any lab from CLI python -m labs.paper4_coupling.phenomena_bpd jupyter notebook notebooks/ # Interactive walkthroughs Requires Python ≥ 3.10, numpy, pydantic, matplotlib.
