Abstract

This module has been thoughtfully designed to serve as a comprehensive learning companion for students enrolled in Calculus 1 with Analytic Geometry. As the first major course in the Mathematics program, it aims to build a strong foundation in the principles of differential calculus while integrating the essential concepts of analytic geometry. Each section adopts the PREPARATION–PRESENTATION–PERFORMANCE approach, enabling students to build a strong conceptual foundation in Calculus I with Analytic Geometry and to apply mathematical principles in real-world problem-solving situations. Through this structure, learners not only gain mastery of fundamental concepts such as limits, derivatives, integrals, and geometric representations but also develop critical thinking and analytical skills essential for fields like engineering, physics, and architecture To further enhance student engagement, the module integrates a variety of student-centered learning approaches throughout the presentation and performance phases. Interactive strategies such as dyadic activities, where pairs of students collaborate to analyze problems, exchange ideas, and verify solutions, encourage peer learning and the development of mathematical communication skills. These are complemented by guided inquiry tasks and collaborative problem-solving, which allow learners to construct their understanding through discovery and dialogue. In the performance phase, individual written exercises and real-life application tasks provide opportunities for students to demonstrate their mastery independently, express their reasoning in written form, and connect calculus concepts to authentic, real-world situations. By actively engaging with the lessons, students enhance their mathematical competence, appreciate the practical value of calculus in interpreting and modeling real-life phenomena, and become better equipped to meet academic standards and future professional challenges. In due course, this module serves not merely as a course requirement but as a comprehensive guide to developing thoughtful, analytical, and competent learners in Calculus I with Analytic Geometry. It aims to nurture lifelong learners who can apply calculus concepts to interpret, model, and solve real-world problems, individuals who appreciate the power of mathematics as a tool for innovation, logical reasoning, and informed decision-making in various professional fields.
