Abstract

This book helps you explore the different cultures, social systems, and worldviews of Indigenous Peoples in the Philippines. It encourages you to respect and appreciate Indigenous knowledge and practices, which are key to our national identity and development. The book draws from anthropology, sociology, history, and law to show how Indigenous Peoples live. It covers their cultural traditions, customary laws, political and social systems, and the challenges they face today. It also highlights Republic Act No. 8371, the Indigenous Peoples’ Rights Act of 1997 (IPRA), which protects their rights to ancestral lands, self-governance, social justice, and cultural integrity. Each chapter invites you to take part in readings, discussions, and activities that help you learn and reflect. Think critically, relate what you learn to real-life situations, and join conversations with others to build empathy and social responsibility. The author created this material to support inclusive and culturally responsive education. It aims to promote peace, sustainable development, and Indigenous empowerment, helping readers become more aware and respectful.
