Language Research 2 Research Writing Made Easy
Abstract
While the COVID-19 pandemic has brought us all anxiety, discomfort, and worries, it has opened opportunities, especially to us academicians, because we are challenged to find ways to continue providing educational assistance and services to you, our dear students. Because we were forced to go online and distance learning in the last two years, we were left with no choice but to create instructional materials that would benefit both our colleagues and you, students. This is one of our works. The concepts and language used here are simplified. The material is designed in a way that you can follow the lessons and activities easily. Now, after two years, we are ready to share with you this work. It gives us pleasure to present to you, the instructional material for CC4114- Language Research 2 which is a sequel to Language Research 1. This first edition is an output of collaboration and contributions from co-authors and teachers from the different campuses of Cebu Technological University. Thanks to them, this material has come into its fruition. Primarily, this material is designed as a learning resource for you, our dear students and a teaching resource for our colleagues. The contents have four major sections; namely, Preparation, Presentation, Practice, Performance; each section represents the different phases of the learning process. Feel free to use or modify the suggested tasks and activities. Let us look at what the topics are and how they are organized. Topics 1 (Data Collection Techniques) and 2 (Data Analysis) reiterate the important concepts of data collection and analysis. Although these have been covered already in Language Research 1, they are reinforced here in preparation for the actual writing of the research results. Topics 3 (Data Presentation Techniques), 4 (Writing the Discussion of Results), 5 (Writing the Summary of Findings, Conclusion, and Recommendations) all present how the gathered and analyzed data should be presented, interpreted, discussed and written. Once the full parts of the thesis manuscript is written, you are then taught how to perfect your references, both the in-text and work cited sections, including the preparation of the preliminary and terminal parts of the thesis paper. These are presented in Topic 6 (Referencing) and 7 (Writing the Preliminary and Terminal Pages). To prepare you for oral defense, you are provided with insights in Topic 8 (Preparing for the Oral Defense). Lastly, additional lessons are presented in Topic 9 (Reporting and Sharing the Findings) which discusses the importance of disseminating the research results. Here you are taught how to convert your thesis manuscript into publishable articles following the IMRAD format as well as how you will prepare for possible conference presentations. We are hopeful that the second half of your thesis journey will be as meaningful and enjoyable as we also find real meaning and fun in creating this instructional material just for you. Now, are you ready? Because if you are, then we are too. Come on. Let our thesis journey continue!
