Abstract

Science, Technology, and Society (STS): A Modular Approach introduces college students to the fascinating connections between science, technology, and society, with a special focus on the Philippine context. This book explores how scientific discoveries and technological innovations shape our daily lives, culture, politics, and economy, while also examining how society influences the development and application of science and technology. Organized using the 4Ps approach—Preparation, Presentation, Practice, and Performance—this book promotes active learning, critical thinking, and ethical decisionmaking. It addresses real-world issues, ranging from digital technology and emerging innovations like GMOs, gene therapy, and nanotechnology, to pressing global challenges such as climate change, helping students understand their societal and ethical implications. By the end of this book, students are expected to appreciate the vital role of science and technology in society and develop the knowledge and skills needed to become responsible, informed citizens in a rapidly changing world.
