Abstract

Normal concrete production utilizes various aggregate types, which impart distinct properties to the resulting concrete. This research focused on the compressive strength of concrete, comparing the effects of crushed aggregate and river aggregate, both commonly used in Bhutan. The study primarily aimed to evaluate the viability of utilizing readily available river aggregate. The concrete mix design for M25 grade concrete was adopted as per IS 10262-2009. Various laboratory tests were performed on the concrete ingredients, including sieve analysis, specific gravity, water absorption, moisture content for aggregates, and setting time and consistency tests for cement, all conducted according to their respective IS codes. This project highlights the potential for using river aggregates, especially where abundant, to achieve desired concrete strength and durability while considering economic feasibility.
