Dark Energy as Mandatory Certification Overhead - Deriving Cosmic Acceleration from Finite Accessibility
Abstract
This paper derives a homogeneous cosmological regulation term as a structural consequence of finite accessibility. Within the finite-accessibility framework, gravitational dynamics arise from constrained extremization of the Einstein–Hilbert action subject to protocol-invariant bounds (action gap and update ceiling). When universality is enforced off-shell in an expanding spacetime, a Lagrange-multiplier term necessarily appears in the field equations. The resulting contribution behaves as a homogeneous, horizon-normalized stress–energy component. Dark energy is identified as this constraint-induced regulation term. It is not introduced as an additional scalar field, exotic fluid, or vacuum fine-tuning parameter. Rather, it emerges from constrained extremization once universality is required across expanding causal domains. Constrained Cosmological Structure In homogeneous symmetry, the certification depletion relation derived for static sources, Omega_t(r) = 1 − GM / (c^2 r), generalizes to a global budget equation governed by energy density, H^2 = (8πG / 3) rho_eff. Under finite accessibility, rho_eff = rho_matter + rho_radiation + rho_reg. The regulation density rho_reg arises from constrained enforcement of universality at the patch scale. Its natural normalization is horizon-scale: rho_reg ~ Omega_reg * (H^2 / G). This scaling follows from constrained extremization and from a thermodynamic inventory of the Hubble patch. No Planck-scale vacuum energy is invoked. Variational Origin The total action is augmented by a covariant constraint functional enforcing universality: S = S_EH + S_m + ∫ sqrt(-g) λ ( U[g,ψ] − U_* ). Metric variation yields: G_{μν} = 8πG ( T_{μν}^m + T_{μν}^reg ), where T_{μν}^reg arises directly from the multiplier term. Thus, the cosmological regulation component is not postulated but is variationally forced once universality is imposed off-shell. Dynamical Signature Because the regulation component exchanges energy with structure formation, it obeys a non-conservative continuity equation: dot(rho_reg) + 3H(1 + w_reg) rho_reg = S_cert. Finite response time and rising certification load generically produce a transient regime where w_reg < −1, providing a falsifiable dynamical signature near peak structure formation. Structural Consequences This work demonstrates: • A horizon-normalized dark component arises from constrained extremization• No new propagating dark-energy field is introduced• The density scale is fixed by patch-level normalization (H^2 / G)• The dispersion ceiling omega_* reappears in perturbation propagation• No Planck-scale vacuum tuning is required Cosmic acceleration appears as the stationary enforcement solution of universality under finite accessibility.
