Abstract
Einstein dreamed that the laws of physics were tied to something absolute. He thought that this was the speed of light. But the speed of light can also change. But τ_CMB is a real, measurable quantity. It is not postulated, but calculated from observable data. On the basis of the principle of chronal dynamics τ = ħ / E, it is shown that the CMB radiation sets the natural time scale for the current epoch: τ_CMB = ħ / (k_B T_CMB) ≈ 2.8 × 10⁻¹² s. Implications for cosmology, metrology, and fundamental physics are discussed.
