Automatic Floor Creation from Point Cloud using Autodesk Revit API (Scan-to-BIM Automation Tool)
Abstract
This project presents an automated Scan-to-BIM workflow for generating floor elements directly from laser scanned point cloud data inside Autodesk Revit using the Revit API. The developed tool analyzes point cloud geometry and detects horizontal planar surfaces and automatically converts them into Revit Floor elements. The automation significantly reduces manual modeling and tracing time required in traditional BIM workflows. The tool is designed for BIM engineers, architects, surveyors and facility management professionals who need to create accurate as-built Building Information Models (BIM) from reality capture data. Key Features:- Automatic floor plane detection from point cloud- Direct Revit floor creation- Reduction of manual tracing work- Useful for renovation and existing building documentation Technology:Autodesk Revit API (C#), Point Cloud Processing, Computational Geometry, Scan-to-BIM automation. This work demonstrates how software automation can improve productivity in the reality capture to BIM modeling pipeline.
