Abstract

This article presents a profound rethinking of physical reality, demonstrating how particles, forces, and spacetime itself emerge from mathematical coherence constraints rather than being fundamental entities. Building on the cohesive (∞, 1)-topos framework, we show that physical laws are not constraints imposed on the universe but the necessary conditions for consistent description of local processes. The central insight is that coherence gaps—topological obstructions to gluing local descriptions into a global whole—necessitate quantization and determine the structure of physical reality. We rigorously demonstrate how characteristic classes arise as classifiers of coherence gaps, with the Stiefel-Whitney class w2 emerging as the obstruction to spin structure through the long exact sequence in homotopy. This framework resolves longstanding puzzles including the black hole information paradox and quantum measurement problem while predicting the observed 3+1 dimensional spacetime from informationtheoretic bounds on coherence complexity. The implications are revolutionary: what we traditionally call ”particles” are not fundamental constituents but quantized coherence data required to close specific topological gaps. Physical reality is not a collection of things but a network of processes held together by the necessity of mathematical coherence. The universe isn’t following laws—it is constituted by them as requirements for consistent description.
